I hope everyone is enjoying the start to the new year. This is the slow and quiet time here at the vineyard, but that is all about to change this month. Every year February marks the beginning of the growing season. We wish winter would stay a bit longer, but we usually aren't that lucky. We must make sure everything is prepared for bud break on the vine and basically get everyone and everything geared up for lots of work outside. However, the real reason we lose the quiet time around here this month is because February means Chili Cook Off time. That's right everyone's favorite party is right around the corner. On Saturday the 25th we will be hosting our 4th Annual Pair it with the Claret Chili Cook Off from 1 pm until 5:30 pm. For those chili chef's that want to sign up for the competition we encourage you to join us. We have plenty of space left for you brave souls. If simply comparing the chili and the wine is more your speed we would love to have you out. The fee is only $15 which gets you a glass of wine, a commemorative glass to take with you and a wristband to sample all the wonderful chili's entered that day. There will be live music to enjoy all afternoon as well as the wine and chili. Spicewood Vineyards will begin releasing plenty of our old favorite varietals from 2011 as well a wide array of new additions to our library. 2012 marks the 20th anniversary of the vineyard, as it was originally planted in 1992. We will be having multiple parties throughout the year to celebrate so be on the lookout for those. Come on out and see what we are up to at the vineyard and share a glass of our wine with me.
